Although food and service have always been a big part of what is now the Fulton Market District. In the late 1800s, there stood a public food hall called West Market Hall.

It then became a place where immigrant farmers sold their produce in Haymarket Square. In 1886, riots broke out protesting against low wages and bad working conditions. Next came a meatpacking and storage environment, as well as the famous Harpo Studios where Oprah Winfrey taped her talk show for 20 years!

It’s just been in the last decade or so that West Loop has been pulled out of its gritty past and come into its own. One might even describe it as coming full circle to the trendy place where people gather for the love of good food and good company.
