Let’s create a memory!
Creating a time capsule is a wonderful way to celebrate an anniversary. It allows you to capture memories and milestones, preserving them for future generations to cherish. We’ve put together some instructions and ideas on how to create a time capsule of your own.
Step One: Choosing a Container
Select a container to act as your time capsule. You’ll want to make sure that it is airtight and waterproof to protect the contents over time. Feel free to decorate the vessel with stickers, paint, or fun messages!
Step Two: Determine the Time
Decide how long you’d like to keep the time capsule sealed. You can choose a specific time like 5 years, 10 years, 25 years, or you can choose a milestone! For example, you can choose not to open the time capsule until your next anniversary or when youngest child moves out!
Step Three: Gather the Contents
Arguably the most important step! You must decide what will be put inside the time capsule. We’ve put together some ideas on what to include in your Anniversary Capsule!
Photographs
Include some of your favourite printed photographs, capturing special moments throughout the years. Don’t forget to take one of today too!
Letters
Take some time to write each other a letter. Print out and fill in this template to help figure out what to include!
Tickets
Add small memorabilia items that hold sentimental value, such as movie tickets, concert stubs, or receipts that remind you of a special day.
Family Messages
Ask your family and friends to share their favourite memories with you as a couple by writing notes or recording videos!
Artifacts
Add items that represent your journey together, such as a wedding invitation, travel souvenir, or a baby dance shoes.
Perfume
Add a small vial of your signature perfume or cologne from this time. When you open it up in the future, this will evoke a strong sense memory!
News Clippings
Include articles or headlines from significant events during your time together. You can even add a newspaper from today, with your anniversary date on it!
Playlist
Create a playlist of favourite songs or songs that hold special meaning. Put it on a USB to add to the capsule.
Recipes
Write down your favourite family recipes. Make sure they don’t get lost to time! You can also throw in some fave takeout menus.
Future Predictions
Together, make a list of thoughts, hopes, wishes, predictions, and goals for the time when you re open this capsule. You can also add your AmazingCo Couple’s Bucket List once you complete it!
Step Four: Store the Capsule
Ensure the container is tightly closed to protect the contents from moisture, air, and light. You may use sealing wax, strong tape, or any other method that will keep the capsule airtight. Find a safe and dry place to store your time capsule. Consider keeping it in a closet or pantry to avoid extreme temperature fluctuations.
Step Five: Open it!
In the future, on your pre determined day, when it’s time to open your Anniversary Time Capsule, make a celebration of it! Why not have a throwback date? On the day you open up your capsule, recreate the current time period as best as you can! Make sure to leave yourself a note with what to include on this future date. Attach it to the outside of the capsule for your future celebration. Celebrate your love, your life, and all the memories your shared along the journey.
