A look back in time
At Fairfield Boathouse the worries are small and the history is long!
The building and gardens have features from yesteryear in a time that the boathouse hosted many boating and open-air carnivals on the river. Make sure you catch up on some local history seen on the walls - photographs, antique telephones, signs and penny arcade games at the Boathouse Museum next to the reception.

These Grounds are home to many species of birds, bats and other mammals, reptiles and fish. We wouldn’t recommend taking a swim as you will most likely be greeted by eels! Birds that are regularly found here are rainbow lorikeets, red-rumped parrots and yellow-tailed black cockatoos, water rats and brush-tail and ringtail possums.
Yarra Bend Park is also home to a colony of federally and state listed vulnerable grey-headed flying foxes. The colony took up residence in the Royal Botanic Gardens in 1986 but were relocated to the more natural setting of Yarra Bend Park in 2003. The protected bats pollinate and disperse the seeds of native trees.
Enjoy your ride around the picturesque Yarra River. Take in the local beautiful trees, the ducks that are following your boat and of course the company of your favourite person!
