CUISINE THREE
You’re Heading To
Tamarindo Latin Kitchen and Bar!
You’ll find Tamarindo at 2906 University Ave, San Diego, CA 92104
This welcoming and colorful spot is a mod counter-serve hangout doling out traditional
Mexican fare & drinks. The brightly-painted pink and blue facade, which is said to have taken inspiration
from the iconic Art Deco buildings of Miami’s South Beach, fronts a fresh interior that’s
meant to evoke a Mexican zocalo, or main square. The Head Chef, Elliot Townsed, draws inspiration for
the restaurant's cuisine from his own Mexican heritage and lifetime spent in San Diego and wants to
bring a local spin to traditional Mexican dishes.
Did you know...
Mexican cuisine began about 9000 years ago, when agricultural communities such as the
Maya formed, domesticating maize, creating the standard process of maize nixtamalization, and
establishing their foodways.
