Your Perfect Pairs
We have tailored your tastings to hit your taste buds at perfect times, so follow the order below. The tasting flight will be set up from left to right, so #1 below is the pairing furthest to the left.
ADELAIDE BEAUTY
To The left
2019 Yangarra Estate Vineyard Blanc
The first wine you will be indulging is a 2019 Yangarra Estate Vineyard Blanc which is a blend of Grenache from South Australia.
Gruner Veltliner is a Native Austrian Varietal and Hahndorf Hills were the first South Australian Vineyard to produce the grape. It is a fruit driven flavour – with a palate of Nashi Pear, stone fruit and spice balanced with a fine acidity. Yum!

Black Savourine
We have matched this with Black Savourine which is a goats milk cheese from the Yarra Valley.
The texture is firm and dense with a slightly creamy, yet firm texture. It has a complex palate of roast nuts, cooked cream, and a lingering citric finish.
Why they are the perfect pair
This wine and this cheese really complement each other. When paired they bring out more complex flavours in each other and elevate the palate. The Blanc has a signature vein of acidity along with a mineral-driven and citrusy taste. It imparts all that goodness into the cream, giving it the extra herbal flavors you didn’t know it needed to have!
THE NEXT BIG THING
In the middle
2017 La La Land Malbec
Our next tasting is the new “it” wine of the block, the 2017 La La Land Malbec from Murray Darling, Victoria.
Malbec was neglected for decades in France as a lesser blending grape. Argentina believed in the wine and resurrected the Malbec and championed it to make it an excellent single varietal!
Malbec has now made a massive splash in Australia and is currently the “must try” wine for many wine lovers!

Mount Zero House Marinated Olives
We have paired this wine with Mount Zero House Marinated Olives from the Grampians in Victoria.
The Mount Zero olive grove is one of the oldest groves in Australia. It is still family run with a great philosophy! They aim to respect the environment, the people of the region and the customers that consume their goods.
Saint Urban uses a mixture of their olives and house marinate them in oil with citrus, aromatics and spices, including star anise, coriander, fennel seeds and cinnamon.
Why they are the perfect pair
These are paired together because the fruit in this wine really softens the sharp salted note in the olives, while the olive aromatics bring out a rounded flavour in the wine. Saint Urban uses a mixture of these olives and house marinated oil with citrus, aromatics and spices including star anise, coriander, fennel seeds, and cinnamon.
TRADITION AT ITS FINEST

2016 Simao Vintage Fortified
Our final tasting is not only filled with fantastic flavours but also a great amount of history. Here you have the 2016 Simao Vintage Fortified from Rutherglen Victoria.
Simon Killeen is a seventh-generation (yes, we said SEVEN!) winemaker born and raised in the Rutherglen region. His father and grandfather crafted some of the country's most legendary fortified wines and now Simon is taking up the mantle under his own label, Simão & Co.
Simão (Portuguese for Simon) is a nod to his love of traditional Portuguese wines and to his time spent making wine in the Douro. The palate is loaded with dark, raisin-like fruits and dark chocolate with hints of black pepper and cocoa bitterness. Richly layered, nicely balanced and serious in structure.

Berrys Creek Riverine Blue
We are pairing this delicious wine with Berrys Creek Riverine Blue from Gippsland.
Made with buffalo milk, this cheese is soft and creamy with delicate notes. It is an intense blue cheese with striations of green mould liberally running throughout. This cheese is perfect for cheese lovers, yet its mild palate makes it perfect for the novice alike!
Why they are the perfect pair
While fortifieds will often overpower a cheese this pairing brings out the best notes in each other and shows us something a little different and unique. The sweetness of the wine is nicely balanced by the pungent saltiness of the creamy blue cheese. The flavors marry in your mouth into something wonderful which keeps you coming back for sip after sip!
This concludes the formal part of your Sidedoor experience
We hope you’ve enjoyed this tasting and learning journey!
If you’re still feeling a bit peckish and would like to try something from the menu, we’d highly recommend Saint Urban’s famous Raclette. It’s absolutely delicious and even comes with a special appearance by the chef!
