KEEP EXPLORING
Shoreditch
If you’re keen to kick on we have a number of recommendations for ways to extend your gastronomical adventure.
If you’re still feeling a little thirsty, why not check out some more of the weird and wonderful cocktails on offer at Lounge Bohemia. We recommend the ‘Osteological Negroni’ and the ‘Volcano’ (be warned..) or if you’re really daring, try the ‘Purple Brain’. Our personal favorite is the ‘You Need Me’...
If you’re keen to check out somewhere different we recommend Blanchette East on Brick Lane, just around the corner. Their small plates of North African dishes are delicious.
For some Shoreditch history of a family of Huguenot Silk Weavers from 1724 to the early 20th century, go to Dennis Severs’ house at 18 Folgate Street. It’s a little bit creepy (you almost feel like the ghost of somebody has just left the room..) and you may need to book ahead but it is both a breathtaking experience and an intimate portrait of the lives of a family in this area.
For something sweet, head back round to BOXPARK next to Shoreditch High Street station and sample Dum Dums Donutterie. Flavours such as Crême Brûlée, Boston Creme, The Dum Dum Dubai and their Signature Cro, ‘The Zebra’. The Zebra contains layers of croissant dough and chocolate croissant dough, filled with chocolate buttercream and topped with chocolate ganache..
If you fancy a quick drink, check out hipster cafe bar ‘Dream Bags, Jaguar Shoes’ behind the glass shopfront of an ex-wholesalers, with a candlelit bare-brick basement.
Once you’ve finished all three Secret Menu Tastings, you might want to head back up to 17b Kingsland rd to the super-cool speakeasy, T T Liquor. Hidden behind a specialist off-licence that’s stocked with hard-to-find spirits, T T Liquor was once a Victorian Police Station. Have a drink in the underground basement that used to be the jail cells! Don’t forget to take a peek upstairs to the outdoor terrace that has one of the best (secret) views of the London skyline. On your way back down, have a look at the cinema room which has screening of cult films on Wednesdays such as The Shining or Gremlins.
