8th Street Winecellar is the brainchild, dream, and literally the blood, sweat and tears of Michael Lagnese and Jonny Cohen, two well loved veteran bartenders from the legendary Union Square Café. As bar manager and assistant beverage manager, Michael worked alongside one of the country’s most elite restaurateurs - Danny Meyer - from whom he learned a successful business model that he has now applied to his very own restaurant. Jonathan, originally from the Boston area, has held positions in every aspect of hospitality from food to beverage to service - not to mention, he is an accomplished New York cartoonist. When these two partnered up with Chef Carlo Soranno of Queens, 8th Street Winecellar was sure to be a smash! Carlo received his culinary education from Johnson and Wales Culinary University in Providence, RI, as well as from the slough of five-star restaurants he has worked at and helmed from Washington DC to San Francisco to New York City. What results is the perfect Greenwich Village hideaway to enjoy wonderful boutique wines, craft cocktails, and small plates of cheeses, meats, oysters, or even pigs-in-blankets from the globally inspired menu in a cozy and intimate atmosphere.
