Owner and Head Chef Luis Arce Mota immigrated to the United States from Mazatlan, Mexico and began his culinary career as a dishwasher in New York City. In between studying under various high profile chefs in NYC’s world-renowned restaurant scene, he received his formal culinary training from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris and Culinary Institute of America in New York. When striking out on his own, Luis decided to mix authentic cuisine and flavors from his home country of Mexico with French cooking techniques.

Thus, La Contenta was born! The first location opened in the East Village, and then La Contenta Oeste followed in the West Village. But that’s not all! Luis also partnered with renowned New York City mixologist, Alex Valencia, to create a custom craft cocktail list and bar menu specializing in agave spirits. Alex has showcased his masterful mixology skills at some of the most famous cocktail bars in New York City, including Bathtub Gin and The Flatiron Room. Here at La Contenta Oeste, he has filled his lifelong dream of opening his own mixology bar. Together Luis and Alex have curated a gourmet Mexican experience with top quality food, beverage, and of course hospitality.
