Tapas Time!

Got the music playing? Perfect! To kick off your Spanish night, some drinks & tapas are in order.

Head on into the kitchen and prepare your Tinto De Verano & Patatas Bravas.

And, here are some tips on creating the Perfect Spanish Charcuterie Board!

Once you’ve prepared your dishes, present them on a colourful tray and head on into the living room to feast.

Relax, enjoy your preparations, and keep that music playing.

I realized very early the power of food to evoke memory, to bring people together, to transport you to other places, and I wanted to be a part of that.”
— Jose Andres (Chef from Mieres, and founder of World Central Kitchen)

It’s often said that one can learn a lot about a culture through its idioms.

Let’s learn a couple while we cook, shall we?

Pan comido

Literal meaning: eaten bread.

Actual meaning: when something is too easy.

Example:

Aprender español es pan comido.
Learning Spanish is easy peasy.

A comer y a tomar que el mundo se va a acabar

Literal meaning: to eat and drink because the world is going to end.

Actual meaning: don’t worry and enjoy life now that you can.

Example:

¿No tienes que estudiar para tu examen de matemáticas?
—No te preocupes, a comer y a tomar que el mundo se va a acabar.

Don’t you have to study for your Maths test?
—Don’t worry, you only live once!

Fun Fact

Did you know that in many southern regions, you’ll be automatically given a small tapas dish with your beer (or should we say, cerveza)?
