Your Perfect Pairs

Your tastings will go in order of left to right. We have tailored this to hit your taste buds at the perfect times so try your best to stick to the order below!

Enjoy!

A BELGIAN BEGINING

Your first drink of your tasting is Blue Moon. A Belgian style wheat ale with an ABV of 5.4%. Blue Moon is brewed with orange peel for a subtle sweetness and a bright, citrus aroma. To heighten the taste, garnish this ale with a slice of orange.

Paired with Shack’s tasty Pork Belly Bites.

Why they are the perfect pair

The orange essence of the beer complements the juicy pork. Both flavours work in harmony to create the perfect taste in your mouth. Pork can also be paired with a wide range of fruits such as apricots, peaches, pears, pineapple, plums, quince, mangoes, dried figs, dried cherries, currants, strawberries, cranberries and apples.

A SWEET SECOND

The next in your tasting experience is Sharps Wolf Rock. Taking its name from the coast of Lands End, this beer is almost red in colour. Boasting a bittersweet, yet fruity flavour and leading to a balanced crisp finish. ABV 4.8%

This is a perfect beer to pair with a ploughman's lunch, charcuterie board or even a smoked salmon dish.

This has been paired with Halloumi Bacon Rolls.

Why they are the perfect pair

Halloumi has a meaty, enjoyably rubbery texture and its versatility and umami flavours combine with its saltiness and should be cut through by the sweet flavouring of this sweet flavoured dark ale. Sweet & Salty have always been a match made in heaven, but have you ever stopped and wondered why the two go together so well?

Each taste bud contains 50 to 100 taste cells, which are actually what do the tasting. Each of these cells responds to a different flavour: sweet, salty, sour, bitter, or umami. Researchers, led by Dr. Robert Margolskee of the Monell Chemical Sense Center, identified the 'SGLT1 receptor' — this transports sugars into cells but only when sodium is present. This could explain why sweetness is accentuated by salt; as the receptors are activated when salt accompanies sugar.

LIGHTEN UP

Our final tasting is Coors Light. Coors take pride in making what they believe is ‘The World’s Most Refreshing Beer’. Made from 100% American Grown high country Moravian barley and pure water from Rocky Mountain springs!

This has been paired with spicy wings.

Why they are the perfect pair

Take some of the kick away from these spicy wings by drinking your Coors Light in between bites. The hoppy flavour can play up the spice in your wings while the residual sugars in your beer will compliment it perfectly. Try taking a bite, then having a sip - what do you think?!

This concludes your King of the Grill tasting at Shack NQ. Thanks for stopping by!

Are you ready to move on?

Make your way back outside and head north east back towards Turner St.

Take a right onto Thomas Street and make your way to Stevenson Square. Here you will find your second stop.

The name of this bar is defined as, ‘A group of animals (such as birds or sheep) assembled or herded together’....

The world’s first passenger train station was founded in Manchester in 1830! It was also the very first railway to rely exclusively on steam power, with no horse-drawn traffic permitted at any time. It was the very first to be entirely double tracked throughout its whole length, the first to have a signalling system, the first to be fully timetabled, the first to be powered entirely by its own motive power, and the first to carry mail.
