El Torito is a family owned business, established in July 1996 by Jorge and Doris Perez. From the very beginning, Jorge and Doris dedicated themselves to introducing the authentic and unique flavours of Mexico to Brisbane. What started off as a small take-away diner was soon transformed into a well known restaurant. And, over 20 years of business, new and exciting dishes and flavours have been added into a menu that consists of a great variety of home-made cuisine.
Their mission at El Torito Restaurant is to maintain excellent food quality by using fresh ingredients and to continue introducing the rustic and authentic flavours of Mexico to the public.
You’ll find El Torito in the ever-growing and evolving Boundary Street precinct, where it has been a Brisbane staple for coming on 16 years. This area hasn’t always been a bustling city street, in fact, it was the home of farms and industrial buildings into the late 19th century. West End was the forefront of Brisbane’s growth, becoming one of the first suburbs serviced by horse-drawn tram which was electrified in 1897. Boundary Street has a dark history to it that many people aren’t aware of, even though it’s hinted at in the very name. In the mid-1800s the street marked a perimeter of a colonial town that local indigenous people were banned from, and sometimes forcibly removed from during tough curfews. Whilst now there is no segregation in Brisbane, the street name serves as an important reminder of the past especially as a cultural and social hub.
