Romance is in the air and no expense has been spared to celebrate the special union of Jennifer Love and Stefan Blake. It’s the wedding of the year and you’re the proud host.

It’s 6.50pm, the speeches are over and everyone is gradually moving into the Sapphire Lounge, ready to watch the newlyweds take to the dance floor. 

Something seems amiss, the Best Man, Jasper, was meant to announce the Bride and Groom to the floor but where is he? Everyone carries on gossiping, ordering drinks at the bar and commenting on Jennifer’s bridal beauty whilst Shonnee Hatton, the maid of honour, wanders off in search of Jasper. 

A minute later a harrowing scream cuts through the air. A group of guests run towards the noise and find Shonnee standing over a body, shaking. Jasper’s lifeless body is lying in a pool of blood, his blue eyes wide open, unblinking. 

A barman calls emergency services and a small swarm of officers flee to the venue, Detective Timothy Toole is in charge. 

There’s no denying it, someone has murdered the best man! 

There is no weapon to be found.

The wedding day has been a whirlwind of champagne fuelled scandals, chats and confrontations. The grounds are large and guests have been flowing through the lavish rooms all day.  Anyone could have have witnessed the murder and anyone could be the murderer. 

Can you piece together the day’s events that led to this horrific crime?

To solve the crime, you will need to ask your fellow players as many questions as possible, adhere to your background information as accurately as possible. 

The game is designed for 6-12 people. If you’re playing with less than 12 people the murderer may or may not be amongst you this evening and there might be references here and there to characters that aren’t playing.

You’re the venue owner and wedding coordinator August Wilde. 

You’re well known in the industry and your venue, "August Grounds" has featured in multiple wedding magazines over the past 10 years. 

You are pretentious and over the top. You often talk about poetry and romance to guests but it's mere pretense, behind the scenes your world is falling apart and you’re spiraling towards self sabotage.    

A medley of terrible budgeting, frivolous spending and a cocaine addiction has landed you in a bit of pickle. To put it bluntly, you’re in financial turmoil. You’ve got overdue bills coming out your ears and you’re panicking. 

Lately you’ve been seriously considering burning the venue down so that you can claim it on insurance, take the money and start afresh somewhere new...maybe Marbella?! You met up with a friend at the cocktail bar called “Honor Against Thieves” recently and joked about the idea with them, just to test the waters and see how the crazy idea floated. 

As long as no one gets in your way, the Love and Blake wedding could be your last!

You learned of Jasper’s death at 7.10pm when Shonnee Hatton screamed the house down. It was a huge sigh of relief at first, here's why. 

 The morning of the wedding was the same as every other, you arrived at the venue around 10am ready to put the final touches to the decor. You greeted your useless staff member Ruby, Three Nipple Nick from the band and the photographer, Tripp Zoom. 

At midday, Three Nipple Nick asked you for a bucket and a rope. You told him to take a look in the scullery, you almost asked him what for but you were too busy to care. 

You returned to your office and found a post it note stuck to your door,

You slowly opened the door and saw Jasper there, waiting for you with a dazzling but evil smirk on his face, “Honor Against Thieves is one of my favourite watering holes too”, he said. 

You demanded he leave your office and talk elsewhere, he followed you out and shut the door behind him. You walked to the end of the gardens where no one will interrupt or overhear you.  

Jasper claimed he knew all about your plan to burn the place down and unless you play ball he will expose you and publish a story in the Bridal Glory magazine which will ruin your reputation. The deal is simple, he said, carry on with the plan and he’ll take 50% of the settlement along with being the new landowner, or, don’t burn the venue down and he’ll expose you anyway. You tried to argue with him but it was futile. 

What kind of man would do this to you? You googled him prior to the wedding day and you know he’s a wealthy man who inherited money a couple of years ago and his business has since taken off to whole new levels…. he’s a rich man! Why does he want to destroy you? 

Defeated, you went back to your office, the post-it was gone from the door when you returned, you’d lost the will to live so you hid in there until the evening, when Shonee’s scream forced you back into reality.

Ruby Sampson - Wedding staff - waitress

It’s her first week at August Grounds and she’s clearly not taken the job because of her passion for the wedding industry. Her mom called up begging you to take her daughter on because she’s broke and the father left them years ago high and dry. 

Three Nipple Nick - Wedding band member 

You met Nick for the first this morning. He arrived very early for a musician and from what you’ve seen so far he’s a bit of an oddball! Nevertheless, he must be a fine musician to play at this wedding so you’ve been trying to pitch your romance poems to him all day. 

Jennifer Love - Bride 

Ah the beautiful bride. You couldn’t believe your luck when she chose August Grounds for her wedding, afterall she’s a D-list celeb marrying into the wealthy Blake family. You got along like a house on fire when she came to visit the venue a few months ago but you’ve not spoken to her much today.

Nelly Woodville - Groom’s Aunty

Funnily enough you met Jasper and Stefan’s aunty along with her husband three years ago at an amateur dramatics society. She was always friendly, her husband’s not here today to tell her to stop gossiping so maybe she’ll spill the beans on what she knows about the investigation.  

Tripp Zoom - Wedding photographer 

Though you’re not closely acquainted, you and Tripp are both in the wedding and events industry and move in the same social circles. He’s a great salesman and milks his clients for every penny.

A murder? At August Grounds? What an absolute disaster - and if this investigator finds out your plans you’re gonna be in trouble, even worse, he might think you’re the killer! 

The site of the pool of blood makes you vomit - that carpet cost a fortune.

You don’t want to be wrongly accused of murder but you also don’t want to people knowing about your insurance scam. You know Jennifer saw you and Jasper talking in the garden, this makes you nervous. Only give her information if she promises not to tell the others. Perhaps she could trade information in return?

If the note is found you should deny you know anything unless people ask you strictly in private.

We have some simple rules for you to follow in order to have the most fun and keep the game moving. Please make sure you adhere to them at all times!

Be the first person to win the game by solving the murderer before anyone else! Be strong in your guess as you can only provide one answer!

You should avoid sharing too much of your findings with other people unless they are an ally or you have an ulterior motive to do so. You all have enemies amongst the players and don’t want them to solve the crime before you do. 

This means avoiding questions like “Who was the last person to see the victim alive?” in the public chat. Piece together this information yourself.

Try to answer all questions honestly, unless your character bio says otherwise, the game relies heavily on the input of all players. Use all the information provided in your character bios to keep the plot moving!

Try and achieve your  Character Goals throughout the duration of the night. They are there for the benefit of your own characters.
