About You

The Wedding Day

General Rules

Welcome to
August Grounds!

Romance is in the air and no expense has been spared to celebrate the special union of Jennifer Love and Stefan Blake. It’s the wedding of the year and you’re invited.

It’s 6.50pm, the speeches are over and everyone is gradually moving into the Sapphire Lounge, ready to watch the newlyweds take to the dance floor - it’s all very exciting!

Something seems amiss. The Best Man, Jasper, was meant to announce the Bride and Groom to the floor but where is he? Everyone carries on gossiping, ordering drinks at the bar and commenting on Jennifer’s bridal beauty whilst Shonnee Hatton, the Maid of Honour, wanders off in search of Jasper.

A minute later a harrowing scream cuts through the air. A group of guests run towards the noise and find Shonnee standing over a body, shaking. Jasper’s lifeless body is lying in a pool of blood, his blue eyes wide open, unblinking.

A barman calls emergency services and a small swarm of officers flee to the venue. Detective Timothy Toole is in charge.

There’s no denying it, someone has murdered the Best Man!

There is no weapon to be found.

The wedding day has been a whirlwind of champagne fuelled scandals, chats and confrontations. The grounds are large and guests have been flowing through the lavish rooms all day.  Anyone could have have witnessed the murder and anyone could be the murderer.

Can you piece together the day’s events that led to this horrific crime?

To solve the crime, you will need to ask your fellow players as many questions as possible, adhere to your background information as accurately as possible.

The game is designed for 6-12 people. If you’re playing with less than 12 people this evening, note that there might be references here and there to characters that aren’t playing.

Nelly Woodville.

You’re Nelly Woodville, Jasper and Stefan’s Aunt. You married into the family over thirty years ago.

You're loud and quirky, and very into astrology, theatre and yoga.

Jasper and Stefan's parents died in a car crash when they were young, so you and your beloved late husband, Ned, took them in as their guardians. You couldn't have children of your own, so you enjoyed mothering them. Stefan was the big softy and Jasper was the mischievous and confident one.

Recently you’ve become very suspicious about poor Neddy's death. He was always a stickler for safety precautions so his fatal accident with a faulty excavator just doesn’t add up.

Through all his smiles and charms there’s something sinister about your nephew, Jasper. You’ve seen how easily he disposes of his employees and love interests and you’ve never liked it. What’s more, with no children of your own, the brothers inherited a large chunk of Neddy’s fortune following his death. Jasper then wasted no time in launching a new expensive project within his business.

You hate to admit it, but for a while now you’ve had this terrible feeling that Jasper played a part in Ned’s death!

You know poor Neddy would want you to seek the truth so you’ve hired a private investigator to look over the details of the incident.

You don’t want to ruin Stefan’s big day so you plan to be a social butterfly today and on your best behaviour!

The Wedding Day and Jasper Blake’s Death.

You arrived at August Grounds at around midday. You hugged Stefan like you usually would and congratulated him. He seemed a bit jittery but Stefan’s often a bit of a wet lettuce.

You then bumped into Jasper who greeted you briefly with a stiff hug but said he had to take care of some business. He took out small piece of paper from his pocket which already had the words “I KNOW YOUR PLAN” written on it. He then smirked at you, said he needs to deliver a message and wandered off. The whole thing made you feel very uncomfortable. You wished Ned was by your side.

At roughly 5.00pm you went to the bathroom for a makeup retouch and caught the end of a conversation between the Bride's daughter, Ocean, and a waitress. Ocean was on a rant. "There's a time for talk and there's a time for action. I'm not going to let him…” As soon as she saw you, she stopped talking and awkwardly changed the subject. As they walked out you noticed she left a brooch by the mirror. You picked it up with the intention of giving it her back when you next saw her.

The speeches had begun, so you perched on a seat next to Pete Peters. Once they were over you went to the bar to treat yourself to a G&T, your usual tipple of choice. You decided to have a little chat with the Bride’s sister, Amy, but you were interrupted by your phone vibrating.

You saw an email marked URGENT in your inbox. You told Amy you had to be excused but you’ll discuss astrology with her more later. You opened the email. It read,

Nelly,

I have news. I can confirm that Jasper hired a new and unknown tradesman to run machinery safety checks that day. It’s too difficult to prove but I can confidently say that your suspicions add up. Jasper coordinated the death of your husband Ned Blake.

P

That was it. You’ve been living a half life since Ned’s death and it’s all because Jasper wanted his cash a few years early. After everything poor Neddy did for him!!

At 6.40pm you went looking for Jasper. You’d had two G&T’s by this point. Your cheeks were flushed and your eyes were full with tears. You find Jasper in the Regent Room leaning against a wall with his back to you. He looked disheveled for some reason, but still his arrogant self. Everyone had left this side of the venue to go and watch the first dance in the Sapphire Lounge. It was just the two of you. The ice sculpture glistened in the sunlight and then it clicked…how perfect! Death by ice, just like your Ned!

You snap off the end of an arrow and whisper quickly in his ear, “I know what you did”. He turns around but you don’t let him speak. Instead you impale him in the chest with the jagged ice.

Jasper is dead. You are the murderer!

You look at Jasper and gag at the lifeless sight of him. You need time to think! You go to reach a tissue from your pocket but clasp the bluebird brooch instead. You were meant to return this but perhaps it could help you get off the hook somehow, or at least give you more time to make another plan. You wipe the bluebird brooch with the tissue and drop it on the floor close to his body.

You leave the scene in a hurry but you don’t run. You don’t want anyone to suspect you!

You get a further email notification saying “The man who tampered with the excavator is a former member of the Wesley Crew.”  Who are they? You don’t have time to think about this right now.

As you head to the Sapphire Lounge you notice Vinnie asleep outside in the gardens.  How peaceful he looks.

You consider what you would have done if you received the initial email on another day, when Jasper wasn’t at an arm's length from you. Who knows. It’s over now and there’s no going back.

Poor Stefan. He can’t find out that it was you. He’ll never forgive you and he’s the only family you’ve got.

General Rules.

We have some simple rules for you to follow in order to have the most fun and keep the game moving.

Please make sure you adhere to them at all times!

1 /

Be the first person to win the game by solving for the murderer before anyone else! Be strong in your guess as you can only provide one answer!

You should avoid sharing too much of your findings with other people, unless they are an ally or you have an ulterior motive to do so. You all have enemies amongst the players and don’t want them to solve the crime before you do.

This means avoiding questions like “Who was the last person to see the victim alive?” in a large group. Piece together this information yourself.

2 /

Try to answer all questions honestly, unless your character bio says otherwise,

The game relies heavily on the input of all players. Use all the information provided in your character bios to keep the plot moving!

3 /

Make sure you complete your Character Goals.

Each of you has some Character Goals listed for you to achieve throughout the duration of the night. They are at the end of your character documents. You must complete these. They are there for the benefit of your own characters.

4 /

Take a look at the August Manor’s floorplans below.

If you can print them out, it might help you to set the murder scene!
