Everything You Need To Know
Your characters information is shown below, you’ll be referring back to this information throughout the game.
August Grounds!
Romance is in the air and no expense has been spared to celebrate the special union of Jennifer Love and Stefan Blake. It’s the wedding of the year and you’re in the bridal party.
It’s 6.50pm, the speeches are over and everyone is gradually moving into the Sapphire Lounge, ready to watch the newlyweds take to the dance floor.
Something seems amiss. The Best Man, Jasper, was meant to announce the Bride and Groom to the floor but where is he? Everyone carries on gossiping, ordering drinks at the bar and commenting on Jennifer’s bridal beauty whilst Shonnee Hatton, the Maid of Honour, wanders off in search of Jasper.
A minute later a harrowing scream cuts through the air. A group of guests run towards the noise and find Shonnee standing over a body, shaking. Jasper’s lifeless body is lying in a pool of blood, his blue eyes wide open, unblinking.
A barman calls emergency services and a small swarm of officers flee to the venue. Detective Timothy Toole is in charge.
There’s no denying it, someone has murdered the Best Man!
There is no weapon to be found.
The wedding day has been a whirlwind of champagne fuelled scandals, chats and confrontations. The grounds are large and guests have been flowing through the lavish rooms all day. Anyone could have have witnessed the murder and anyone could be the murderer.
Can you piece together the timeline and solve this ghastly crime?!
To solve the crime, you will need to ask your fellow players as many questions as possible, adhere to your background information as accurately as possible.
The game is designed for 6-12 people. If you’re playing with less than 12 people this evening, note that there might be references here and there to characters that aren’t playing.
You are Shonnee Hatton, the Bride’s best friend and Maid of Honour.
At any social event, you’re always the one that has one too many drinks and ends up dancing on the table, drunk dialling a love interest, or getting into a confrontation with a random stranger. Most of the time it’s just table dancing though, so…embarrassing? Yes. But fairly harmless.
Unfortunately for you, you’re madly in love with the Groom’s brother, Jasper. A lot of your friends think he’s arrogant and sly but you just think he’s misunderstood. You’ve had an on/off relationship with him for over two years now. He’s messed you around over and over again but you still think he’s the one. Love conquers all, right?!
Jennifer’s been pretty anxious lately but you think that’s down to wedding day jitters. You think she would have gotten used to them now…it is her third wedding after all!
You do know that her daughter, Ocean, might cause a scene at this wedding. Jasper’s just got planning permission to build his business project on a major bird migration path and you know, as an environmental activist, she is not happy!
You last saw Jasper when you found him lying dead in a pool of his own blood!
You arrived at August Grounds at around 10am and went straight to the bridal rooms to get ready for the ceremony with Jennifer, her sister Amy and her daughter, Ocean.
Whilst Ocean was occupied typing on her phone, Jennifer showed you a bluebird brooch that Ocean had given her to wear as her “something blue.” You both had a chuckle about how ugly it was and when would be the appropriate time to ditch it.
Then things took a swift turn for the worst.
Out of habit, you decided to have a quick scroll through your social media accounts and then you noticed a tweet from Ocean saying:
“Projects like Jasper Towers are toxic to our environment. Join me and sign the petition to pull the emergency break on this development. WE MUST ACT NOW!
#FaceOurFuture #SaveOurPlanet #BirdsBeforeABuck”
She typed the tweet here in the room just seconds ago. Could she not have held off one day?
Next, Jennifer’s phone flashed. The screen lit up and it caught your eye. A text reading:
“I want to show the world how sexy you are. Jasper”
Jennifer and Jasper?! Surely not? She knows Jasper’s your man! You didn’t think she even liked him that much! And she’s getting married today! To his brother! What is going on?!
Jennifer hadn’t noticed her phone yet, so you took a second to calm down and then decided not to act on it. It’s her wedding day and despite how angry and confused you feel, you don’t want to ruin it for her.
You smiled at Jasper when you saw him and got through the ceremony and the photos with a fixed grin. Afterwards you hung back outside for a while to have a walk around the gardens and get some fresh air.
By then it was 3.45pm and the sun was just starting to set. Everything was still other than a bush that kept rustling. How odd! You peered through and saw Amy Love and Jasper kissing! Are you kidding?!
They didn’t see you. You headed straight to the bar. It was margarita time.
You spent the rest of the day knocking back margaritas and holding back the tears. You were heartbroken and felt betrayed by everyone.
When it was time for the newlywed dance you headed to the Sapphire Lounge and bumped into Stefan on the way. He looked distracted and dishevelled…. why? Who knew. You didn’t care.
When Jasper didn’t show to announce the newlywed dance like he was supposed to, you carried out your bridesmaid duties and went looking for him.
That’s when you found him.
We have some simple rules for you to follow in order to have the most fun and keep the game moving.
Please make sure you adhere to them at all times!
1 /
Be the first person to win the game by solving for the murderer before anyone else! Be strong in your guess as you can only provide one answer!
You should avoid sharing too much of your findings with other people, unless they are an ally or you have an ulterior motive to do so. You all have enemies amongst the players and don’t want them to solve the crime before you do.
This means avoiding questions like “Who was the last person to see the victim alive?” in a large group. Piece together this information yourself.
2 /
Try to answer all questions honestly, unless your character bio says otherwise,
The game relies heavily on the input of all players. Use all the information provided in your character bios to keep the plot moving!
3 /
Make sure you complete your Character Goals.
Each of you has some Character Goals listed for you to achieve throughout the duration of the night. They are at the end of your character documents. You must complete these. They are there for the benefit of your own characters.
4 /
Take a look at the August Manor’s floorplans below.
If you can print them out, it might help you to set the murder scene!
