About You

The Wedding Day

General Rules

Welcome to
August Grounds!

Romance is in the air and no expense has been spared to celebrate the special union of Jennifer Love and Stefan Blake. It’s the wedding of the year and you’ve been commissioned to capture all those special moments!

It’s 6.50pm, the speeches are over and everyone is gradually moving into the Sapphire Lounge, ready to watch the newlyweds take to the dance floor.

Something seems amiss. The Best Man, Jasper, was meant to announce the Bride and Groom to the floor but where is he? Everyone carries on gossiping, ordering drinks at the bar and commenting on Jennifer’s bridal beauty whilst Shonnee Hatton, the Maid of Honour, wanders off in search of Jasper.

A minute later a harrowing scream cuts through the air. A group of guests run towards the noise and find Shonnee in the Regent Room standing over a body, shaking. Jasper’s lifeless body is lying in a pool of blood, his blue eyes wide open, unblinking.

A barman calls emergency services and a small swarm of officers flee to the venue. Detective Timothy Toole is in charge.

There’s no denying it, someone has murdered the Best Man!

There is no weapon to be found.

The wedding day has been a whirlwind of champagne fuelled scandals, chats and confrontations. The grounds are large and guests have been flowing through the lavish rooms all day. Anyone could have have witnessed the murder and anyone could be the murderer.

Can you piece together the day’s events that led to this horrific crime?

To solve the crime, you will need to ask your fellow players as many questions as possible, adhere to your background information as accurately as possible.

The game is designed for 6-12 people. If you’re playing with less than 12 people this evening, note that there might be references here and there to characters that aren’t playing.

Tripp Zoom.

You’re Tripp Zoom, the successful smooth talking wedding photographer.

Though landscape and wildlife photography is your favourite art, there’s easy money to be made in the wedding scene. As a wordsmith who can sell hay to a farmer, couples easily fall into your trap, allowing you to cash in on all the bonus services like pre-wedding location shoots and cheesy videos.

Now and again you’ll dabble in cocaine for recreational use. Your supplier is a close friend and recently divulged that August Wilde is a regular client of his. August is the wedding coordinator and though you don’t know each other well, you mix in the same social circles.

You also know Jasper Blake through playing poker down at the local pub, Honor Against Thieves. A couple of months ago, when you’d had too many beers, you revealed to him a dirty secret. When you were just starting out in the world of photography you worked at a dodgy photo agency and once stole from the process room a collection of risqué negatives of Jennifer Love, his future sister-in-law.

Jasper offered a huge sum to take them off your hands and asked you to be the photographer on the wedding day to sweeten the deal. Despite waking up the next day and feeling awkward and uncomfortable about the whole arrangement, it was money you couldn’t refuse. After all, she’s a D-list celeb these days. The wedding photos will make you a small fortune!

The Wedding Day and Jasper Blake’s Death.

You arrived at the venue at 10am and went straight to August’s office to say hello. You also introduced yourself to Nick and Ruby, the lead band member and wedding waitress respectively.

You then went to the dressing rooms to take those cliche “getting ready” stock photos that bridal parties seem to love. For someone who shoots over 100 weddings a year, you’d think you’d be more of a romantic. You overheard the girls chatting about a bluebird brooch that Jennifer was wearing as her something blue. Oh dear, you thought. Let’s hope she removes that thing for the photos.

By 3pm the ceremony was over and it was time for you to take control of the party. You ushered everyone out into the garden for the photo session. You often like to experiment and put newlyweds in odd positions and settings, hiding them in expansive landscapes and retouching their faces so they’re model-like and unrecognizable. Jenifer’s a beauty though, so that wouldn’t be necessary here. Nevertheless she seemed very on edge and jittery. Through the camera lens you noticed she kept looking over at Jasper and some old geezer wearing shades.

You also watched a groomsman follow around the Bride’s sister like a lost puppy. She’s clearly got him wrapped around her little finger but from the way she’s eyeing up Jasper, she’d let this guy go in a heartbeat. Weddings are where the drama’s at!

Once the photos were over you went inside and captured the special moments of the dinner and speeches. Towards the end of his speech the Groom said, “I wish my parents and uncle could be here and see how happy I am today. We wouldn’t be the men we are today though without our Aunty Nelly who looked after Jasper and I since our early teens. Nelly, thank you! We love you!”. You never asked Jasper about his family before and suddenly you realised how little you knew him.

Around 6.15pm you forgot all about the First Dance and instead found a quiet place to look through all the snaps you’d taken of the day. You were interrupted by a piercing scream coming from inside. You rushed into the Regent Lounge to see what’s going on and found the Maid of Honour crying next to Jasper’s lifeless body.

General Rules.

We have some simple rules for you to follow in order to have the most fun and keep the game moving.

Please make sure you adhere to them at all times!

1 /

Be the first person to win the game by solving for the murderer before anyone else! Be strong in your guess as you can only provide one answer!

You should avoid sharing too much of your findings with other people, unless they are an ally or you have an ulterior motive to do so. You all have enemies amongst the players and don’t want them to solve the crime before you do.

This means avoiding questions like “Who was the last person to see the victim alive?” in a large group. Piece together this information yourself.

2 /

Try to answer all questions honestly, unless your character bio says otherwise,

The game relies heavily on the input of all players. Use all the information provided in your character bios to keep the plot moving!

3 /

Make sure you complete your Character Goals.

Each of you has some Character Goals listed for you to achieve throughout the duration of the night. They are at the end of your character documents. You must complete these. They are there for the benefit of your own characters.

4 /

Take a look at the August Manor’s floorplans below.

If you can print them out, it might help you to set the murder scene!
