About You

The Wedding Day

General Rules

Welcome to
August Grounds!

Romance is in the air and no expense has been spared to celebrate the special union of Jennifer Love and Stefan Blake. It’s the wedding of the year and you couldn’t give a fig.

It’s 6.50pm, the speeches are over and everyone is gradually moving into the Sapphire Lounge, ready to watch the newlyweds take to the dance floor - here we go again!

Something seems amiss. The Best Man, Jasper, was meant to announce the Bride and Groom to the floor but where is he? Everyone carries on gossiping, ordering drinks at the bar and commenting on Jennifer’s bridal beauty whilst Shonnee Hatton, the Maid of Honour, wanders off in search of Jasper.

A minute later a harrowing scream cuts through the air. A group of guests run towards the noise and find Shonnee in the Regent Room standing over a body, shaking. Jasper’s lifeless body is lying in a pool of blood, his blue eyes wide open, unblinking.

A barman calls emergency services and a small swarm of officers flee to the venue. Detective Timothy Toole is in charge.

There’s no denying it, someone has murdered the Best Man!

There is no weapon to be found.

The wedding day has been a whirlwind of champagne fuelled scandals, chats and confrontations. The grounds are large and guests have been flowing through the lavish rooms all day.  Anyone could have have witnessed the murder and anyone could be the murderer.

Can you piece together the day’s events that led to this horrific crime?

To solve the crime, you will need to ask your fellow players as many questions as possible, adhere to your background information as accurately as possible.

The game is designed for 6-12 people. If you’re playing with less than 12 people this evening, note that there might be references here and there to characters that aren’t playing.

Ocean Love.

You’re Ocean Love, the 17 year-old daughter of the Bride, Jennifer Love.

Like your mom, you're used to getting what you want and acting on impulse. You have very different priorities, though!

You’re a passionate environmental activist with an impressive Twitter following of 10 million. That’s right, 10 million! You regularly post tweets holding business moguls and politicians to account. You don’t care that people think you're naive and inexperienced. They need to sit up and listen! THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW.

A couple of days ago you discovered that Jasper is planning to build his new business “Jasper Towers” on a bird migration path and you are FUMING!

You get along with your mom’s new man, Stefan, but his sly power hungry brother is a whole other story.  You’ve only met him a handful of times and you’re sure he’s just a jerk with no morals and dollar signs in his eyes.

You are not looking forward to this dumb wedding. Your mom’s been acting really weird lately and her best friend, Shonnee, won’t shut up about Jasper being a big “softy at heart who’s just misunderstood”. Yawn.

Plus, your mom and Stefan have wasted so much money on the day. Just think of all the ways it could have been better spent! It’s an abomination.

The Wedding Day and Jasper Blake’s Death.

You were in the Sapphire Lounge about to watch the first dance when you learned of Jasper’s death.

The day started early and by 10am you were at August Grounds getting ready with your mom, her best friend Shonnee and your Aunty Amy. You gave your mom a really cute bluebird brooch to wear as her “something blue.” She seemed to really like it.

You read an article in the paper about Jasper’s new development and you couldn’t resist tweeting your displeasure. At 10.15am you tweeted:

Whilst you were greeting guests you saw an old school friend, Ruby Sampson. She was in a ridiculous maid outfit, obviously she worked at the venue. You made a mental note to go and find her later and catch up.

At 3pm your mom asked you to look after bluebird brooch because she couldn’t wear it for the photos. “It’s too beautiful, it steals the show”, she said. Whatever. The photos took forever but you couldn’t believe it when you saw your estranged grandad at the other side of the gardens talking to Jasper! What on earth was he doing here? As far as you knew, he wasn’t invited.

By 5pm you finally got the chance to catch up with Ruby in the bathroom. You showed her the bluebird brooch you got your mom but then you couldn’t help going off on a rant about how bad Jasper is and the devastating impact his new development will have on the bird migration path. She asked you the address of the development site and when you told her she basically hit the roof. She then confessed that her mom is losing her job because Jasper is bulldozing her cafe to make way for the new build.

You declared,  "There's a time for talk and there's a time for action, Ruby. I'm not going to let him… ” - you stopped mid sentence because Jasper’s Aunty walked in…Nelly Woodville. Poor old Nelly. Your mom says she lost her husband a couple of years ago and she’s never got over it.

You walked out and realised it was time for the speeches. Perfect. You used this opportunity to discuss social injustice and climate perils and ended on an obvious poke at Jasper’s current business endeavours. Job done. Sorry mother, but global activism is more important than your third wedding.

You walked into the Sapphire Lounge with your mom and she told you to “put a lid on it. This is not the day for drama, despite how horrible he is”. She almost shuddered as she said this. Since when did she hate Jasper so much?

Stefan then appeared just in time for the newlywed dance, but Jasper was nowhere to be seen. Shonnee went looking for him, and the rest is history.

General Rules.

We have some simple rules for you to follow in order to have the most fun and keep the game moving.

Please make sure you adhere to them at all times!

1 /

Be the first person to win the game by solving for the murderer before anyone else! Be strong in your guess as you can only provide one answer!

You should avoid sharing too much of your findings with other people, unless they are an ally or you have an ulterior motive to do so. You all have enemies amongst the players and don’t want them to solve the crime before you do.

This means avoiding questions like “Who was the last person to see the victim alive?” in a large group. Piece together this information yourself.

2 /

Try to answer all questions honestly, unless your character bio says otherwise,

The game relies heavily on the input of all players. Use all the information provided in your character bios to keep the plot moving!

3 /

Make sure you complete your Character Goals.

Each of you has some Character Goals listed for you to achieve throughout the duration of the night. They are at the end of your character documents. You must complete these. They are there for the benefit of your own characters.

4 /

Take a look at the August Manor’s floorplans below.

If you can print them out, it might help you to set the murder scene!
