About You

The Wedding Day

General Rules

Welcome to
August Grounds!

Romance is in the air and no expense has been spared to celebrate you and your beloved’s wedding day.

It’s 6.50pm, the speeches are over and everyone is gradually moving into the Sapphire Lounge, ready for the much anticipated newlywed first dance!

Something seems amiss. The Best Man, Jasper, was meant to announce the Bride and Groom to the floor but where is he? Everyone carries on gossiping, ordering drinks at the bar and commenting on Jennifer’s bridal beauty whilst Shonnee Hatton, the Maid of Honour, wanders off in search of Jasper.

A minute later a harrowing scream cuts through the air. A group of guests run towards the noise and find Shonnee standing over a body, shaking. Jasper’s lifeless body is lying in a pool of blood, his blue eyes wide open, unblinking.

A barman calls emergency services and a small swarm of officers flee to the venue. Detective Timothy Toole is in charge.

There’s no denying it, someone has murdered the Best Man!

There is no weapon to be found.

The wedding day has been a whirlwind of champagne fuelled scandals, chats and confrontations. The grounds are large and guests have been flowing through the lavish rooms all day.  Anyone could have have witnessed the murder and anyone could be the murderer.

Can you piece together the timeline and solve this ghastly crime?!

To solve the crime, you will need to ask your fellow players as many questions as possible, adhere to your background information as accurately as possible.

The game is designed for 6-12 people. If you’re playing with less than 12 people this evening, note that there might be references here and there to characters that aren’t playing.

Stefan Blake.

You are Stefan Blake, the Groom and Jasper’s younger brother.

You’ve spent a fortune on this wedding and you’ve done everything you can to keep your beautiful bridezilla happy. You’ve even gone to wedding choreography classes…the humiliation!

Despite now being successful in your own right running a risk management business, you’ve always been in your brother's shadow and let him be the star of the show. You’d rather your old friend and personal trainer Peter Peters be the Best Man, but your brother’s told you that he’s already written his speech, so you felt obliged to just let him take the role.

Your parents died in a car crash when you were just 13 so your Uncle Ned and Aunt Nelly took you and Jasper in. Uncle Ned passed away just a couple of years ago and you both inherited a large chunk of his fortune. As a risk assessor you’re a little suspicious about your Uncle Ned’s death. Something just doesn’t add up. Your Aunt Nelly loved him so dearly though so you’d never mention any of this to her.

A couple of days before the wedding you realised that Jennifer had unknowingly hired an old school acquaintance to perform at the after party. If you’d had known sooner you would have cancelled the Blue Wombats. There’s no way the lead member, Nick, would have gotten over being bullied by Jasper all those years ago. It was brutal.

You’re also very worried about Jennifer. She’s been a bit strange lately and you think it’s about a big argument you had 5 weeks ago about wedding expenses. She stormed out for the night.

The Wedding Day and Jasper Blake’s Death.

The last time you saw your brother Jasper was when you punched him in the face.

It all began around 10.30am when you arrived at August Grounds. You and your groomsmen went straight to the dressing room to get ready.

Whilst putting on your pink bow tie, Jasper said, “Well, little brother, today’s the big day you marry your reality TV star. What strange times we live in!”. You’d had enough of Jasper ripping apart Jennifer’s career as a D-List celeb. Peter was over it too it seemed. His wedding date was Jennifer’s sister after all. He nipped out for “a quick 30 push ups” then came back in a better mood.

The ceremony went wonderfully and you married your queen. You noticed her estranged father had showed up, but as long as she was ok with him attending, you were too. The more the merrier!

It was just after the ceremony, at about 2.30pm, when you spotted Three Nipple Nick over the other side of the room fiddling around with equipment. You caught his gaze and he smiled casually. You looked away and walked on. He gave you the willies.

After the photos you wanted Jasper to help usher everyone inside and get seated but he was nowhere in sight. You went looking for him in the gardens and found him kissing your new vain sister-in-law, Amy. You left them to it, you’ve never understood Amy or the high society accent she tries to put on….Peter’s should stay clear.

Immediately after the speeches you and Jasper played a quick game of pool in the Regent Room. Jasper shook his head and said: “Wow that family is something. Do you know Jennifer’s Dad used to be a gang member of the notorious Wesley Crew? What an old crook. You truly are marrying into the dregs of society, Stefan.” With those last words you marched up to him and punched him across the face.

Peter walked in just on time and grabbed your arms from behind and pushed you out the door. You both walked out leaving Jasper to tend his ego. You were distressed, angry but also liberated, you’d never punched anyone before!

A couple of minutes later on your way to the Sapphire Lounge you bumped into Shonnee, your wife’s best friend and Jasper’s on/off girlfriend. She had a margarita in hand and her eyes were puffy.

You were mere moments away from putting your dance skills to the test in front of a very large and judgemental audience when you heard Shonnee’s scream.

General Rules.

We have some simple rules for you to follow in order to have the most fun and keep the game moving.

Please make sure you adhere to them at all times!

1 /

Be the first person to win the game by solving for the murderer before anyone else! Be strong in your guess as you can only provide one answer!

You should avoid sharing too much of your findings with other people, unless they are an ally or you have an ulterior motive to do so. You all have enemies amongst the players and don’t want them to solve the crime before you do.

This means avoiding questions like “Who was the last person to see the victim alive?” in a large group. Piece together this information yourself.

2 /

Try to answer all questions honestly, unless your character bio says otherwise,

The game relies heavily on the input of all players. Use all the information provided in your character bios to keep the plot moving!

3 /

Make sure you complete your Character Goals.

Each of you has some Character Goals listed for you to achieve throughout the duration of the night. They are at the end of your character documents. You must complete these. They are there for the benefit of your own characters.

4 /

Take a look at the August Manor’s floorplans below.

If you can print them out, it might help you to set the murder scene!
